Modern Slavery Statement

1. Policy statement

Language Empire acknowledges its’ responsibilities in relation to tackling modern slavery and commits to complying with the provisions in the Modern Slavery Act 2015.
Language Empire understands that this requires an ongoing review of both its internal practices in relation to its’ labour force and additionally, its supply chains. The Company is committed to ensuring that there is no modern slavery or human trafficking in our supply chains or in any part of our business.
We are committed to acting ethically and with integrity in all our business relationships and taking reasonable steps to ensure slavery and human trafficking are not taking place in any business or organisation that has any sort of a business relationship with our Company.
Language Empire does not enter into business with any organisation, in the UK or abroad, which knowingly supports or is found to involve itself in slavery, servitude and forced compulsory labour.
No labour provided to Language Empire in the pursuance of the provision of its’ own services is obtained by means of slavery or human trafficking. Language Empire
strictly adheres to the minimum standards required in relation to its’ responsibilities

2. Scope

This policy applies to all employees and potential employees of Language Empire. It also applies to all those working for or on behalf of Language Empire such as freelancers, contractors, subcontractors, consultants, volunteers, those on work experience and student placements.
The policy applies to all areas of employment and service delivery.

3. Related Policies and Associated Arrangements

This policy is to be implemented in conjunction with consideration of other relevant company policies and information such as:
• Health and Safety Policy
• Employee handbook
• Slavery and human trafficking policy
• Equality & Diversity Policy
• Whistleblowing Policy
• Anti-Bribery Policy
• Grievance Policy
Once finalised, all staff will be trained and made aware of these policies.

4. Legal Context

This statement is made pursuant to Section 54, of the Modern Slavery Act 2015

5. Due Diligence Processes

We undertake due diligence to ensure that modern slavery and human trafficking do not occur within our business and supply chains. These processes include:
• Conducting background checks on suppliers and partners.
• Requiring suppliers to confirm compliance with the Modern Slavery Act.
• Reviewing contracts to include termination clauses for suppliers engaged in modern slavery practices.
• Regular internal audits to identify any risks within our business operations.

6. Risk Assessment and Management

We recognise that there are sectors within our business and supply chain where there is a higher risk of modern slavery. These include:
• Freelance workforce – Given that many of our linguists work remotely, we ensure fair pay and ethical working conditions.
• Recruitment processes – We ensure fair hiring practices and vet any recruitment agencies used to source staff.
To mitigate these risks, we assess suppliers based on geographic location, industry risk, and workforce vulnerability.

7. Training and Capacity Building

We provide training to our employees and contractors to raise awareness of modern slavery risks. Training is included in our induction program and covers:
• Identifying signs of modern slavery.
• Reporting concerns confidentially.
• Legal and ethical responsibilities under the Modern Slavery Act.

8. Responsibility for Implementation & Communication of the Policy

The management team are responsible for compliance within their respective departments and in their supplier relationships and have been trained accordingly. There is a Company induction where our policies, procedures and expectations are outlined.
Language Empire carries out due diligence processes in relation to ensuring slavery or human trafficking does not take place in its’ business or supply chains including conducting a review of the control of its’ suppliers.
Language Empire has not, to its knowledge, conducted any business with another organisation which has been found to be involved itself with modern slavery.
Language Empire will review supplier contracts to include termination powers in the event that the supplier is, or is suspected to be, involved in modern slavery.
This policy will be communicated within our social platforms, internal teams and all Linguists during induction.

9. Key Performance Indicators

To evaluate the effectiveness of our modern slavery prevention efforts, we track the following key performance indicators (KPIs):
• Number of supplier audits completed annually.
• Percentage of staff and contractors trained on modern slavery awareness.
• Number of modern slavery concerns raised and investigated.
• Compliance rate of suppliers with modern slavery policies.

10. Review

This policy will be reviewed every two years as a minimum and/or in line with legislative changes to ensure ongoing compliance with legal requirements and best practices. It will be communicated via our website, social media platforms, and internal staff channels.
Any concerns regarding modern slavery within Language Empire should be raised with the Compliance Manager.
